William Phemister, pianist, composer, and editor, is a professor of piano at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. A graduate of the Juilliard School, the École Normale de Musique (Paris), and the Peabody Conservatory where he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Phemister owes his formation to world-class teachers such as Joseph Raieff, Edward Steuermann, Jules Gentil, and Leon Fleisher.

In addition to winning a Fulbright Grant to France, Phemister was awarded 1st prizes in important American piano competitions including the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artists Award, the Debut Award of the Young Musicians Foundation, as well as participating in major international competitions.

His concert career has taken him throughout the United States and around the world. In recent years, he has performed and held seminars in Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, China, and North Korea.

In 1998, he founded the Church Pianists’ Institute to assist and encourage the development of keyboard musicians to better serve church ministries. Institutes are held periodically on the campus of Wheaton College (Illinois) and at satellite locations around the country. Via his publications, Phemister seeks to provide the classically-trained musician with repertoire suitable for worship and the concert stage.
